Get Organized

Organization is important:

You can’t do your homework if you

  • Don’t remember what the assignment is
  • You leave your books at school
  • You aren’t sure about what you should do for the assignment
  • You brought home the wrong papers.
  • Your books or other materials have been misplaced

    Get a Go Home Folder
    Keep an Assignment Log  - Use your Red Hawk Student Handbook / Calendar
    Keep an assignment Calendar
 

  Study Environment

       Study in one regular location designed for studying

       Study in a place free from noise and interference (TV, loud music, talking.
           People doing other things.
 

       Study in a  well-lit place free from visual distractions (posters, TV, pictures, or
            hobbies

       Study in a comfortable (but not too relaxed place)

       Have all of your study materials in your study location.

       Set a goal to improve your study environment

Take Good notes

        Notes give you a written record to review

        Force us to pay attention

        Organize the speaker’s words or the text  you are reading

        Have a summary of a classroom discussion

        Outlining- Main ideas and details underneath

        Mapping- use a picture to explain topic, and supporting details

        Venn Diagram- compare and contrast ideas

        Clues

                                    Anything the teacher tells you to write down should be in your notes

                                   Anything the teacher writes on the board

                                      Anything the teacher repeats should be included

                                     Anything the teacher emphasizes should be in your notes

                                      DO HAVE 2 PENS

                                      DO USE WIDE-RULED PAPER

                                      DO LABEL THE PAGE

                                                               i.      Close your eyes and picture what you are trying to remember

                                                             ii.      Create pictures and charts to describe what you are learning

                                                            iii.      Go online and visit web sites about the topic you are studying

Homework:

 Practice new skills that were learned in class. Practice helps you remember what you learned.

Keep old skills fresh

Review what you learned in class.

Learn new things not covered in class

Prepare for new lessons.
