2009 DMS Cross Country

Mid-State CC Association (includes Schedule and RESULTS!)
CC Handbook
Middle School Cross Country Handbook
This handbook is for the parents
as much as it is for the athlete. I have tried to include as much as
I possibly can. I hope that it is a help to you.
Here are some
items that I recommend that runners bring to a cross country meet. I
have given an explanation for each.
-
Uniform,
running spikes. No explanation needed.
-
An extra
set of shoes, socks, clothes, and a small towel. You never know
when it is going to rain!
-
A small
flattened roll of toilet paper. This is always the funny ones to
kids, but many times the meet sites only have portable potties,
and when you gotta’ go and there’s no toilet paper…
-
Many
students like to bring portable CD players to listen to on the
bus. I do not object to them, however the kids need to be aware
that the bus is not a completely secure place and items cannot
be guaranteed to be seen at all times. This is not a place to
bring large amounts of cash. Bring only the amount of
money you would need to eat at a fast food restaurant.
-
Athletes
should bring a backpack or gym bag to carry their items. Mark
the backpack with your name, phone number, and address. Often
items get left at the meet site. Doing this one simple thing
will give you a better chance at getting your item(s) back.
Like any other
outdoor sport, meets will not go on in bad weather such as storms
involving lightning. Cancellations of races are at the director’s
discretion. Meets are run in rain or cold weather where lightning
is not involved. (We love it when this happens! MUD!)
Yes. I only
ask that if you do take them home that you give me a note stating
that you are taking them with you. This is so I will know how many
should be on the bus to go home. I ask that all runners ride
the bus to the meet.
Our goals as a
team are to compete at the highest level we can. We talk as a team
about our goals individually and as a team on a daily basis. As
coach, I always hope to have all of my runners at every practice and
meet. I do understand that situations arise that keep them from
being at a certain meet or practice. I ask that you please
communicate with me in advance if this is going to be the case.

Other
ruminations…
-
Coach H.
will have shoes for runners to try on Monday or Tuesday 8/19-20.
-
The order
will be placed on Wed. 8/21. Money needs to be turned in to
Coach Hickerson by next Tuesday. Because of a very tight budget,
I cannot order you a pair of spikes unless I have your money.
