School districts applied for funding through the e4TN program earlier this fall. The program was designed to offer elementary, middle and high school students online courses aligned to state and national academic standards.

“It’s very important for education to maximize the opportunities available using modern technology,” said Lana Seivers, the state education commissioner. “Online learning levels the playing field for students in districts that may not be able to offer very specific, challenging courses in every subjects.”

The biggest bulk of the grant funds, $2.7 million, will go to Hamilton County Schools. The district will serve as the site for the research, development and implementation of the program. The seven other systems - including Bedford, Dickson and Wilson in the Midstate - will serve as the pilot sites for the program and each receive $100,000 grants.
