Student Immunization Information

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH) has issued new immunization rules and is issuing a new Official Certificate that is required for entry into school effective July 1, 2010. All newly required vaccines are routinely recommended for all children. Most children should have already received them. Below is a summary of the required immunizations for Dickson County Students.

For students entering Pre-K or Pre-School:

DTP-DTaP-DT-DTP/hib-Td  - 4 doses

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - 2 doses

HEPATITIS B (HBV) - 3 doses

Chickenpox (Varicella)  - 1 dose or history of disease

Polio (OPV/IPV) - 3 doses + 4th dose now required after 4th birthday

Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib) -  age younger than 5 years only (this requirement is resumed following suspension during a national Hib vaccine shortage in 2008-2009)

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - age younger than 5 years old.

Hepatitus A (HepA) - 1 dose by 18 months of age

For students entering Kindergarten:

DTP-DTaP-DT-DTP/hib-Td  - 4 doses + booster (at 4-6 years of age)

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - 2 doses

HEPATITIS B (HBV) - 3 doses

Chickenpox (Varicella)  - 2 doses or history of disease (previously only one dose or history was required)

Polio (OPV/IPV) - 3 doses + 4th dose now required after 4th birthday

Hepatitus A (HepA) - 2 doses (required beginning
July 1, 2011)

For students entering 7th Grade:

Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis booster (“Tdap”)

Verification of immunity to varicella (2 doses or history of disease)

For New Enrollees (neither K or 7th):

Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP, or DT if appropriate)

Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - 2 doses

HEPATITIS B (HBV) - Previously only for kindergarten, 7th grade entry

Polio (OPV/IPV) - 3 doses + 4th dose now required after 4th birthday

Chickenpox (Varicella)  - 2 doses or history of disease (previously only one dose or history was required)
