If you want to do research, how do you start?  There are many different types of "models" to do research.

But you need to know where to go look for information.

First, what is it you need to find out?

Here is a list of things and the kinds of information you find.

Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL)

http://access.gale.com/tel2/

Magazine articles, newspaper articles and journal articles among other things (What do I Read Next?)

Almanac such as the Old Farmers' Almanac

http://www.almanac.com/

Historical statistics or quick facts about a place
Dictionary Definitions of words or how to say words
Netrekker

http://www.nettrekker.com

Search engine for web sites about school-related topics
Encyclopedia

Try online ones like World Book Online or free such as Columbia Encyclopedia found at answers.com

Contains more information than a dictionary, covers a wide range of topics, and is not dated like an almanac.  It is arranged alphabetically by topics and keywords
Dickson County Schools has a subscription to World Book Online.  Ask your student about the password-we discussed it in the computer lab several times and it has been sent home in media newsletters.
