Text Box: Soak all combs and brushes in hot water (1 quart) and a small amount of bleach (1 teaspoon) for 30 minutes. After soaking, rinse them with hot water and let air dry on a clean towel. Wash the child’s clothes, towels, pillow cases, sheets, blankets, coat, hat, backpack, and gloves in hot water using laundry soap. Dry in the dryer on high heat for at least 20-30 minutes. If the child has napping blankets or pillows at school make sure they are sent home in a closed bag and washed and dried before they are returned to school with the child. Items that come in close contact with your child and cannot be washed (i.e., stuffed animals, pillows, comforters) can be placed in a sealed or closed paper or plastic bag for two weeks or dry cleaned. Vacuum all carpets, furniture, car seats, and head rests. Throw away the vacuum bag. We do not recommend the use of any insecticidal sprays. They may be harmful to family members and pets, and are of questionable benefit.
