Technology Department
Purpose and duties
The Technology Department for Dickson County Schools is responsible for servicing close to 2,000 computers as well as over 20 servers, numerous types of software, printers, projectors and other multimedia components. Technology is also responsible for the Inter-tel phone systems used throughout the county.
Our purpose in the Technology Department is to help teachers and students make the most of everything technology has to offer that they may not only benefit themselves in the school system but also be equipped to meet the needs of a community made up of diverse technological requirements.
Equipment
Technology can be a powerful teaching tool and here at Dickson County it is very important to stay current with the latest changes in the technology field. With the new Technology Refresh Plan, Pat Semore, Director of Technology, will be able to replace or "refresh" the schools with newer equipment and software to better serve student learning and teacher efficiency. Dell computers are the primary computer used through out Dickson County Schools. Computers must have at least Windows XP operating system and a minimum of 512MB of RAM. Some older computers can still be found throughout the county but these will soon be phased out through the new replacement program.
Staff
The Technology Department employs skilled and experienced staff to meet the needs of the county's large computer network. Technicians are responsible for testing, implementing, troubleshooting and repairing all areas of technology. Teachers also aid in supporting the technology needs of the county by becoming Tech Coaches for their schools. Currently there are 7 tech coaches who service 9-10 schools in Dickson County. The Tech Coach program is managed by Federal Programs Director Vivian McCord.
