MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 3/15/11
- Softball and baseball games have been canceled for today.
- Baseball will practice in the gym today 3-4:30. No softball practice.
- Our flags are flying at half-mast today. President Obama has ordered that all US flags be flown at half-staff in honor of the last World War I veteran, former Army Cpl. Frank Buckles.
MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 3/8/11
- Congratulations to the Lady Colonel softball team. They won 15-9 over Cheatham Middle.
- Softball practice is canceled today.
- Baseball practice will be 3-5 at the field.
- The Girl Scouts are sponsoring a Saint Patrick's Day Dance at the Community Center. We have allowed them to hang posters in the school to get the message out.
- Don't forget, the annual staff will meet during Flex tomorrow. They will also be staying after school until 5 pm.
- End of nine weeks is this Friday.
- Report Cards go home on Monday, the 21st. We will also be having our Parent-Teacher Conference that day. 4:30-6:30.
MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 3/7/11
- 4th grading period ends this Friday. Report cards go out Monday, March 21st.
- Parent-Teacher Conference will be Monday, March 21st 4:30-6:30. (We will have a faculty mtg. 3:15-4:30.)
- Yearbook staff will meet this Wednesday. They will meet during Flex and after school. 3-5pm.
- Baseball and softball teams play today @ Cheatham. Players do not leave class until the 3:00 bell. They should get dressed immediately and sit in gym. Do not leave school and do not roam the halls. Players will leave promptly at 3:30 for the game.
- Applications for 6th Graders interested in attending the STEM Camp this summer will be sent home today. Flyers were sent home last week. The deadline to return the application to school is March 21st.

- Spring pictures are this morning in the cafeteria. Students wanting picture made must have form and money. We will call students by grades.
- Yearbook staff will be meeting next Wednesday (March 9) from the beginning of Flex until 5 pm.
- Band members will be on a Field Trip to Nashville Symphony tomorrow. A list of those attending will be attached to Absentees today
- Baseball and softball will be going to the field this afternoon for practice. Please dismiss at 2:35. We will make an announcement.

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 2/25/11
- The Regional Spelling Bee is next Wednesday, March 2. Ali Davis, 7th grade student, won the County Wide Spelling Bee and will be competing.
- Spring Pictures are next Wednesday. Letters have already been sent home with students. The pictures will be pre-paid- we have only had one student turn in money.
- The end of the grading period is next Friday, March 4.

- Baseball practice in gym today 3-5.

- The parent meeting at Creekwood is also tonight. Ms. Cabell is getting 8th grade students to call about tonight. She will also send a letter home about registrations next week. If a parent can only make it one night, it should be next week. Tonight will mainly go over what the counselors told the 8th graders when they came here a few weeks ago for the parents' benefit.
MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 2/14/11
- Baseball and softball tryouts are 3-5 today and tomorrow and students will ride the bus to the field. They will be dismissed at 2:30 to dress in the locker rooms and go immediately to bus 13.
- The dance has been rescheduled for this Friday night, 6-8.
- Progress Reports for 7th and 8th grade will go out tomorrow.
- Snow days will be made up President's Day, March 24 and 25, and April 21 and 22. Any future days missed will be taken from March 28, 29, 30, 31, and April 1.
- The 7th grade related arts that are due to change will change next Monday.

- Eighth grade students will go to their reading teacher first period related arts to finish their 4-H speeches.
- The boys played a great game last night in the tournament game against Cheatham Middle. They won and will play in the championship game Saturday. The girls play at 3:15 and the boys play at 6:45 on Saturday.

- We have basketball games at home this evening beginning at 4:00 pm. Tonight will be 8th grade recognition night. Eighth graders will be recognized prior to the National Anthem and the varsity girls' 6:00 pm game.

- Cole Lewis was the WJMS Geography Bee winner when the contest was held here. Tomorrow he will be taking the test to qualify to advance. Wish him luck!!

The fund-raiser pizza party will be next Thursday, Dec. 9, at lunch time. The students who are invited will come to the gym for a special lunch. A list will be sent out to the teachers before then.

Don't forget the six students who are being treated to lunch at El Monte's today. They are: Angel Cathey, McKenzie Hutchison, Victoria Robinson, Amber Simms, Chase Dawson, and Joe Lynn. They will come to the office at the beginning of 5th period. They will not be announced.

The winners of the Geography Bee are: 1st place-Cole Lewis; 2nd place-Jared Cook, 3rd place- Kassidy Jones. Congratulations to these students!! Cole Lewis will be taking a Geography Test on January 6, 2011, to qualify for the state Geography Bee.

Basketball Homecoming was a great success last night. Thank you to all the attendants, cheerleaders, basketball teams, coaches, teachers and staff who helped make it special.

- Our WJMS Colonels and Lady Colonels played the Fairview Falcons last night here at William James. The Colonels, Lady Colonels, and JV boys won their games.
- If you see one of the Lady Colonels today, congratulate them for cinching the Conference Championship last night! Congratulations Lady Colonels.
- We will play East Hickman tomorrow for our Homecoming game. JV games begin at 4:00 p.m. Attendants will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Varsity games begin at 6:00 p.m.
- Homecoming attendants will come to the gym at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon for rehearsal.
- The Geography Bee will be tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the library.
- Basketball players may be a few minutes late to class. They began taking pictures this morning by 7:30 and are finishing up.

Today is the last day to sign up to be homecoming attendant. We
announced yesterday no candy. Thank you for your cooperation
today. Voting will be Monday during 5th period. If
candidates want to bring treats for their classmates, I will allow it on
Monday only. No trash is to be left from the treats and they may not be
eaten in class unless special arrangements are made with a teacher.

If you are ordering pictures from on make-up picture day, please bring
your money Monday.

· Our Colonel basketball teams will go to Waverly for games this afternoon
beginning at 4:00 pm. The bus will leave WJMS at 3:15.
Players need to wait until the last bell to be dismissed from class.

Students may not give out candy at school to get people to vote for them
for homecoming.
This morning in the bus room it caused a big disturbance - students
throwing candy, etc.

The Colonel basketball teams traveled to Charlotte last night. All our WJMS players hustled and played good games. The JV and Varsity boys both won their games. The Varsity girls' game was very exciting and came down to the very end. Charlotte ended up winning the game, but it could have gone either way. WJMS will play the Charlotte Tigers again next Tuesday, November 23, here at WJMS.

Congratulations to the five winners in the Fund Raiser drawing yesterday afternoon. The next turn in day will be next Monday. The next drawing will be Tuesday during Flex. There will be ten winners at that drawing. Be sure to turn in your sales so your name will be in the drawing.

We will be extending sign ups for basketball homecoming until lunch time Friday. Voting will be Monday at the beginning of 5th Period (lunch period).

- We will have the first drawing for our fund raiser this afternoon at 2:30.
- The next turn in day is next Monday, Nov. 22.
- Students, we are having a problem with students marking on themselves and others causing a disturbance. There is no reason for a student to have a marker at school unless the teacher asks him/her to use it in class.
- Also, the matter of silly bands, rubber bands, or anything resembling rubber bands has already been addressed this year. Students are not to be wear these at school.
- The bus for the basketball teams will be leave for Charlotte today at 3:30. Two JV games start at 4:00 followed by the varsity games.
- Wrestling team will leave at 2:45 this afternoon. The team should be dismissed at 2:30 to get ready.
- Congratulations to the Varsity Girls and Boys on the game last night. They won both games against Hickman County.

We will be kicking off our
major
fund raiser for this year today. We will be selling
cookie dough that does not have to be refrigerated. It comes in
tubs - you add eggs and butter to prepare. Each tub is $12.00.

7th grade will be doing a
pilot TCAP test this morning starting around 9:30 and ending
around 10:30. Please be extra quiet going through the 7th grade
hallway during this time period.

- There will be a pep rally today at 2:30.
Students will report to the gym at 2:25.
We will dismiss them back to their flex class at 2:45 –
except for 6th grade – they will bring their things to
the gym to dismiss from there.
- Home game tonight is with Waverly.
JV plays at 5:00 and varsity begins at 6:00.
- About Veterans Day:
I need 4 or 5 students from each grade to greet our guests
and serve as hosts/hostesses beginning at 8:30 on the 11th.
They will greet guests at the door and help them sign in on
the computer in the office to get a name tag so we will have a
roster of those attending.
Registration and reception for veterans:
8:30-9:30 and program at 9:30.

- William James Colonels will travel to DMS this afternoon for our second basketball game.
- Our Colonels traveled to Hickman County for the first game of the season last night. JV boys won 35-16, varsity girls won 37-16, and varsity boys won 53-46. Congratulations to our Colonels!
- Our first home game will be Thursday at 5:00 against Waverly.

Anyone who missed the deadline for buying their pictures or
did not like their picture when they were made last month may have
their picture re-taken. We
will let you know when it is time for you to go to the cafeteria to
have your picture made.

Tomorrow is a half day of school for WJMS due to CreekWood
homecoming. Dismissal will be
at 11:30 just like Monday’s dismissal.
If you are a car-rider, be sure your ride knows to be here on
time. People will be arriving
to assemble the parade so our parking lot needs to be clear.

The parade starts here in the WJMS parking lot at 1:00 pm and ends
at White Bluff Elementary School.
Our cheerleaders will be in the parade.

Today is Trade Day for the 6th and 7th grade
core teachers. Sixth grade
teachers are rewarding the students they had last year for making
gains on the achievement tests that were taken last spring.

Car-riders will be dismissed at 11:20.

As part of a special Veterans Day presentation, we would like to
include pictures of veterans submitted by WJMS students and staff.
Pictures can be emailed to
jackiepotter@dcbe.org.
Please include the name of the veteran, the name and grade of
the student and the relationship to the student.
Pictures must be turned in no later than Wednesday, November
3rd.

our teachers will be attending a meeting at DMS.
- This week is Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
Be sure to thank your bus driver for getting you to school
and home safely.
- Parent-Teacher conferences are next Tuesday,
from 5-7. Students, if your
teachers give you a notice to give to your parents about coming to a
conference, make sure they get it.

· The last day to turn in school picture money is Friday, October 22. If you have it at school, please turn it in to the office.
· Ms. Abernathy will meet with students interested in joining the annual staff today during Flex in the cafeteria. Students will fill out an application and will be chosen based upon teacher recommendations. Students need to check in with their Flex teacher before going to the cafeteria.
· Football players need to get any personal items out of the locker room by Friday.
· Ms. Stacey brought in a pink lunch bag that someone left on bus 49 this morning. You can pick it up in the office if it belongs to you.
